Highlights & Presentation links – ManACE TIN – Jan. 31, 2018

The January 2018 ManACE TIN found a great group of people who braved the cold to come, eat pizza and salad, and hear three great presentations. Special thanks to Tara McLauchlin and Andy McKiel for hosting us at the St. James-Assiniboia School Division Resource Centre.

The presentations:Cheryl Prokopanko from Manitoba Education and Training presented on the Coding and Computational Thinking discussions that are being held as well as a quick refresher on the revised Literacy with ICT. A link to her presentation is below:

David Wall who is on a leave from Pembina Trails showed us some cool ideas for computational thinking and also introduced us to the safe image sharing app Creatubbles. His presentation examined a number of models for computational thinking and also has many great ideas and activities that will work with kids. As an example we did a emoji sharing exercise where we created our image on a grid and then wrote out the coordinates for another person to follow, Then we swapped papers and tried to recreate the emoji. Check out his presentation at:

Renee Sanguin teacher-librarian at Victoria-Albert School shared the amazing MakerSpace implementation that they have at their school. Her co-presenter, Shauna Cornwell, was unable to make it but Renee led us through some of the background to the Maker movement in WSD#1.
Their presentation follows:

It was a very fun and informative evening with lots of good food.

Also note that the two ebooks on how teachers in Manitoba are using technology well are free and available at
